From what I can determine, there is a strong correlation between the information that comes from an ORP sensor and a PH sensor. I want to be as complete as possible with the data collection without duplicating data.
Can I get by with one or the other, or would it be best to have both (like the KnowFlow ).
Application: water quality in a stream that runs through mine tailings.
Thanks in advance, Dave Robinson IronRain.us
Hi @MadTinker, oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) and power of hydrogen (pH) measure different chemical properties: ORP provides information about electron transfer reactions, while pH provides information about hydrogen ion concentrations. The usefulness of each of these analytes depends on the question you're asking. If you simply want to know the stream's acidity, then pH is easier and more straightforward. If you want to gain information about what metals species may be present and what range of metals concentrations may be possible, then you'll want to use a combination of ORP and pH.

@gretchengehrke Thanks! That's kinda what I thought, but wasn't sure. I'll likely end up with both since the professional measurement suite has historically include PH, but I'm also very interested in heavy metals.
