Toolshed Raising II: Feb 2, 2014

The first "toolshed raising" was a big success, so we're doing another, also at Parts & Crafts!

Katie G suggested the following agenda:

  1. First hour and a half -- 12-1:30 pm - Intro to the toolset! --- we (P&C + whoever wants to help) bring out the spectrometer, infragram, thermal fishing bob and just show people how they work Kind of like open shop but with PLOTS tools. Goal: Low key intro to the tools, gives newcomers something to do, introduce folks to what PLOTS is directly through the toolset, chat and eat pizza as people trickle in
  2. Show and tell - 1:30 - 2 pm -- A specific 20 minute presentation, by "someone" on "something cool and relevant to this toolset" illustrating how this toolset might be applied in the real world (initial suggestion for January would be either Sara doing a rundown of the thermal fishing bob, or Jeff and Cort doing an intro to oil sampling techniques and why they're useful) Future suggestions might include Patrick doing an to Mystic River Watershed monitoring, or XXX (sorry, I forgot your name!) talking about sensors for arboreal aspiration and why we need less expensive ones, etc. Goal: to offer something concrete people can come for, to spark off conversation later, potentially, serve as a jumping off point for hacking session -- for networking, conversation, and ice-breaking purposes.
  3. Open hacking session: 2 - 4 pm. People can come and work on whatever. We'll still have the tools out to show newcomers how they work, but mostly this is just open time for building and talking and eating pizza and trying stuff out.
