Hello greater Boston and parts of New England,

After this past Barnraising down in New Orleans, it seems we have a pretty hopping community of people in New England and we all want excuses to hang out some more in the future.

Instead of a barnraising, I was thinking we might raise a toolshed. The focus isn't on tools exactly, it's more that toolsheds are smaller than barns. I'm open to better names.

I'm going to try to cover some of the different interests found our geographical area. My memory is a bit weak, so please add to this list and forgive me if I've forgotten something.

  • Sara has got some electronics that do mix with water to measure heat waste in water sources.
  • Will likes to go on a lot of trips to map all the New Englands.
  • Jeff has a bunch of tools that we've probably all heard about given that this is a PublicLab list, but maybe we haven't learned how to use them or even got to touch them.
  • Katie uses aforementioned tools for educational purposes with young'uns.

Okay my memory is pretty much burnt out recalling even that much, but I know there is so much more!

My thought is that we schedule some weekend and some place. People can come and go. We'll try to figure out a schedule prior to the weekend using some unconference planning pre toolshed raising. Due to impending holiday travel craziness, we might put off the toolshed raising until after January. You know, when its nice and cold and it is a terrible time to travel!

People like Sara, Will, Jeff, and Katie can talk about the things they do. Show and tell style.

Maybe other people have some big plans and they are looking for help? Sara might be a combination: she's got a tool, but she is also looking for help.

We can also have celebrity panels! Someone will need to know some celebrities, and we'll also need some subjects for discussion!

If it is indeed very cold, maybe we can have a sustainable fireplace and locally grown hot cocoa? I'm sort of out of my element on the environmental stuff if you can't tell. In fact, I'm being terribly unhelpful, so that's all I'm going to write for now.

We should probably create some kind of democratic schedule polling tool, like this (open source) http://primelife.ercim.eu/results/opensource/63-dudle or this (commercial web service): http://doodle.com/
