I recently asked a question about resources for monitoring noise pollution and heard back from people about a number of available apps, and a couple monitors (a digital sound level meter and the softhook Raspberry Pi sound-streaming device). I'm wondering

  • What are situations when one might be better than the other?
  • How do their data compare?

Other information on comparisons would be helpful as well.

Using apps is certainly handy for when the noise issue is unexpected. One of the apps I blogged about gave the example of students having a hard time finding a quiet place to study.
