Workers in oil fields, near oil and gas pipelines, in sewers, and at waste water treatment plants have significant potential exposure to hydrogen sulfide. Are there limits set by the Occupational Health & Safety Administration for the maximum exposure to hydrogen sulfide allowable?
Yes, OSHA does regulate workplace exposure to hydrogen sulfide. The OSHA "ceiling" exposure limit is 20 ppm, though NIOSH- the federal research institution on which OSHA bases their exposure standards- recommends a ceiling exposure limit of 10 ppm.
