Join us on an open community call to kick-off a research area review on mapping for organizing and advocacy. Have you created maps or aerial imagery to mobilize people around a local environmental issue? We'd love to hear from you!

WHEN: Tuesday, May 11, at 12pm PT / 3pm ET / 7pm UTC / other time zones, during Public Lab's regularly-scheduled Open Call.

WHERE: We'll meet on Zoom. Click here to join Zoom meeting

WHAT: We'll meet each other and exchange our initial questions and challenges for this topic, and figure out how we can collectively grow knowledge and skills towards community organizing and advocacy using mapping as a key step. We'll talk about what we'll do over the next two months of the review, and how you can participate! More details on the research area review are here.

Follow the #organizing and #advocacy tags to get the latest news about future events and other organizing- and advocacy-related posts on Public Lab.

Hi @seankmcginnis, would you be available sometime to talk about your work with Public Lab Philadelphia? I'm working with CMU Libraries in Pittsburgh and am interested in reproducing or linking up with some of your group's activities.

(Sorry for the unconventional method of contact - I wasn't able to find a direct messaging option on the Public Lab platform.)

Hope to talk soon, Patrick

@ptrick127 - I would be more than happy to talk with you about some of the work we did in Philadelphia. If you’d like we can connect on Twitter.

Sounds good - I'll connect with you there. Talk soon.

Hi @seankmcginnis, I'm actually not super active on Twitter and can't figure out how to send a DM (looks like it's blocked?). I found you on LinkedIn and will reach out to you there if that's ok. Hope to talk soon. - Patrick

@ptrick127 and @seankmcginnis you're welcome to drop-in to next week's Open Call here at Public Lab to carry on the conversation! These are the kind of conversations we encourage during this open space event time for the broader Public Lab network.

How to join: https://publiclab.org/wiki/open-call

Look forward to seeing you both there whenever you're ready :D

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind.

Glad you could all connect. It is the case, and by design, that this platform does not support direct messaging. We work in public so that we can help keep each other safe.

Thank you to everyone who joined this call yesterday!

A fabulous group of organizers and mappers came to the call and exchanged knowledge, questions, challenges, and guidance on the work they're doing in their communities. Notes from the call are here: https://pad.publiclab.org/p/opencall.

The conversation can help direct additional focus as we review and create resources on the topic of mapping for organizing and advocacy. I’ll post some of the more general questions that came up so that we can start working on them!
