Kinect for 3d mapping from a car

I've been wondering about balloon-based work... but it'd be hard to get a stable or trackable platform. I remember some settlements in Lima needed topography as part of their tenure process.

I guess it is still early days in terms of cheaper & better tools coming, but creating 3d ground scenes as a companion to aerial mapping seems compelling.
