The Clean Water Act was inflicted in 1972 and has a dramatic part in an area in North Carolina named Camp Lejeune. It was inflicted due to a lawsuit which involved the spilling of toxic chemicals which were drunken by the inhabitants of Camp Lejeune. Studies shown that the water had several cancer-inflicting chemicals which were deemed unsafe for obvious reasons, and the government knew about these toxic chemicals but still allowed people to drink them.

The effect of the clean water act to camp Lejeune has led to many lawsuits and a lot of its inhabitants to be compensated including Family members. Most of the people that lived in the base including family members are deemed exposed to carcinogenic chemicals one of which is Benzene. The clean water act of 1972 allows the family of the soldiers to get compensation. Almost 1 million soldiers are deemed affected by these chemicals at camp Lejeune. The clean water act of 1972 enforces consequences to those who neglect water safety for the people so that it could prevent future contamination.

In 1972, Congress passed the Clean Water Act to remove toxic substances from water and to keep it clean which impacted the Camp Lejeune lawsuit because the marines and their families on the camp was given contaminated drinking water. Fuel was dumped in the drinking water in the community. At camp Lejeune testing found that the drinking water had benzene, trichlorethylene, perchloroethylene and more chemicals had been dumped into the water. These chemicals are carcinogenic which is more cancer prone when ingested. Such cancers that could have been cause by this drinking water is leukaemia, liver cancer, acute myeloid leukaemia, bladder cancer, brain cancer, breast cancer, central nervous system cancer, cervical cancer and more. The even worst part about the lawsuit was that the officials knew about the toxins in the water and chose not to address

The clean water act was a law passed by the congress in 1972. The clean water act promised to remove toxic substances from water to keep it clean from carcinogens and make all drinking water safe. This law affected the Camp Lejeune case in the favor of the people because this law promised clean water which was passed by the congress or the government which the camp and or military is directly connected to. So, because of this the Camp is easily shown to be unlawful and was bound to fail the case because of the clean water act’s promises.

In North Carolina is a military camp called camp Lejeune. For 30 years millions of marines and their families that lived on or next to the camp were exposed to carcinogenic chemicals in their drinking water. These chemicals in the water were fuel, benzene, TCE, PCE, CE, etc. and could cause cancers like leukemia, liver cancer, lung cancer, and many more. The camp then was sued for its detrimental effects to these families and marines as well as their knowledge of the quality of the water but their lack of action. About two decades later, in 1972 Congress passed the Clean Water Act (CWA). This act removes toxic substances from water and keeps the water clean. These two things relate because many other places were most likely affected by the same thing as the families of camp Lejeune. And camp Lejeune was probably one of the catalysts for making such an act because of the important of clean drinking water.

We need this act because having dangerous chemicals and waste in our water can cause different cancers. Marines that resided in Camp Lejeune suffered from bad water effects because they drank supposedly safe water. It had a lot of carcinogenic harms. Now there is a lawsuit going on to compensate the marines and their families affected by this.

Over 1 million marines were affected by contaminated drinking water. Fuel had more than an impact but an adverse effect on the environment. The Clean Air Act (CAA) was created to purify the air for the people's safety. As well for the (CWA) Clean Water Act that was established in 1948 and (CSA) the Clean Soil Act. Testing found that drinking water sources of Camp Lejeune were contaminated with substances such as Benzene and (TCE) Tetrachloroethylene. Many people were carcinogenic indicating they were at risks of more than one cancer such as breast, leukemia, brain, bladder, cervical, liver, and more. After people found out what happened at Camp Lejeune the (CWA) became involved in the lawsuit of the Camp Lejeune. The lawsuit still goes on today due to its violation of clean water. I have learned that the Clean Water Act of 1972 was created so that people should only be given safe drinking water. In Camp Lejune, there was a class action lawsuit because of a violation on the act. Like all military bases, marines believed to be in the safest place with the safest food and water. However, there was fuel that intoxicated the water that the residents were given. The government knew they were being given carcinogenic water but didn’t do anything about it.

Today we learned that the Clean Water Act o 1972 was authorized to protect people from consuming toxic chemicals in their drinking water. The current lawsuit conducted against Camp Lejeune states that Marine officials knowingly allowed residents of the camp to drink contaminated water. As many as one million Marines and their families were exposed to the carcinogenetic contaminates of the drinking water. Chemicals such as benzene, trichlorethylene, and perchloroethylene, to name a few, were in the water. Some of the types of cancer it can cause are liver, lung, ovarian, central nervous system, and esophageal cancer. A lawsuit was filed against Camp Lejeune for introducing dangerous chemicals such as Trichlorethylene into the drinking water resource.

This act is so effective to so many others b/c due to when people without access to clean water resort to drinking from contaminated water. Someone, well anyone could easily contract diseases. & To say that camp Legeune, the people there were exposed to so many different types of chemicals; this would be one of the main causes for why the act was enacted.

The hearing is about the military troops and their families consuming toxics chemicals.

The clear water act was made so that this wouldn't happen to people but since this act was broke on purpose there is now a class action lawsuit against Camp Lejeune. The chemicals that were found in the water was fuel. 1 million troops were effected and that is not counting the people that were in their family.

The camp violated the Clean Water Act because people knew there were carcinogenic chemicals in the water, and nothing was done about it. As a result, there is a class action lawsuit in affect.
