Laser hair removal is the process of removing body hair by exposing it to laser light pulses. The light pulses enter the skin and send the hair follicle a message to stop growing. Laser hair removal has been around for over the last 40 years but only became commercially available in the mid-90s. Laser hair removal is widely practiced by various skin and health clinics but has become really expensive.  Bareskin IPL laser hair removal device was developed for this very reason. This device emits intense pulsed light (IPL) in 5 different settings - from a low setting to ultra-high. Settings on the IPL laser hair removal device is determined by the user's type of hair and skin type.

How does a laser hair removal device work?
This technology was discovered by Melanie Grossman and R. Rox Anderson. They discovered that it is possible to physically target a precise chromophore in a hair follicle by using a laser device. 
As they explain you can moderately damage basal stem cells that are found inside the hair follicle. The hair follicle goes into a resting phase and stop growing and falls out.  By using the laser hair removal device on your body every month, you can stop hair growth in certain areas you want to target.

The Bareskin Laser Hair removal kit is not a laser emitting device but actually an IPL device. IPL stands for intense pulsed light similar to a laser. Dermatologist and cosmetic practitioners call it a flashgun for the skin. It delivers a broad-spectrum light that penetrates the skin and switches off the hair follicle. The difference between an IPL laser and a normal laser is easy to understand.

Both work on the same principle but the main difference is the light source that is used.  The laser is one single light frequency while the IPL make use of broad-spectrum light.  For IPL using this kind of light for hair removal, it targets the melanin pigments in the hair follicle. The light enters the skin and goes down to the root of the hair follicle.

The IPL light energy is absorbed by the hair and causes damage which in turn stops the hair from growing. An IPL light is considered a more spectrum light which spreads out. With this hair removal device, you can target a larger area and much quicker to use.
